Tell me something about the differences and similarities between these two regions of Florida.

Gulf Coast from Panama City to Naples has the best beaches. However, be aware, there are swarms of old people stumbling around out that way too. Atlantic Coast doesn't have the beautiful beaches, but oh, the nightlife!

The Atlantic has waves for surfing, but these waves also wash away the beaches. Some of the best beaches in the world are on the Florida Gulf Coast. If you want to check it out for yourself, just go to the Key's where the Gulf and the Atlantic are just across the street from each other.

I have been on the Atlantic, and the Gulf, and I always did prefer, the Gulf hands down! The beaches are so much nicer, and if you go to Siesta Keys off of Sarasota, the sand is cool to touch instead of hot because of the quartz content in the sand. The water is calm at the shore instead of the big waves, and the water is a beautiful blue green clear color. That's just my opinion, but I really do love the Gulf side so much better!

I've been on both coasts. I have family in Jacksonville near the Atlantic and that's what coast we here in New Jersey are on. The water is wavier and brown/green. I'm more afraid of it because of the waves.
Now on the Gulf Coast in Florida, Naples is my favorite place. I've not been to many places on the Gulf side, but I love Naples. Since it's on the gulf, waves are just about non-existent, the water is clearer and since I can see through it, I'm not afraid of it.
I know you asked about Florida, but a few years ago, we went to the Gulf Shores area of Alabama. The beach is beautiful, the water is great.

I love the Atlantic coast, reason being the wildlife. The gulf is full of stingrays. The chances of stepping on one is pretty good if you go in most times of the year. Too yucky for me too, it is a lot like a bay in the water condition.
I love the ocean, it is cleaner and although I realize it has wildlife all its own (sharks etc) It just appears to be healthier than the gulf. I think that the ocean side has a lot more to do too. I love Ft. Lauderdale and south.. Anywhere north of that is just too cold for me :)

Atlantic. Primarily because the water is cleaner and you find more ocean salvage on the beaches.
