While sleeping it's a problem, while angry he's just trying to get your attention. It isn't humanly possible for someone to hold their breath on purpose until they die, or cause brain damage. Breathing is an innate reflex, you can't stop it or help it. If it continues get a second opinion.

Yup completely normal, my sister did it every time she cried hard enough. She eventually grew out of it but not before she got really upset at our parents and fell in the gravel driveway. She hit a rock just right and had to have a few stitches. Just be careful and watch him so this kind of thing doesn't happen to him. Unfortunately it may be years and years before he grows out of it, my sister was in late elementary early middle school when she did. Good luck.

hi!, my nephew does that too and hes been tested for all kinds of diseases and all have turned out fine. They willeventually stop doing it ( hes 2 and still does it ) my brother in law used to do it when he was a kid too. My nephew has like a little seizure and passes out. if Dr. says its ok it probably is but you might want to have him tested for some problems though before you relax about it. But just from personal experiance, he'll be fine and unless you think a sarcastic personality is bad, my brother in law didnt turn out 1/2 bad either....

It's just a breathing reflex thing. When they get upset sometimes they can't control the reflex to breathe back IN. It's scary and awful to see your baby turning blue btu once they pass out they automatically start breathing again and they're fine. My nephews went through this, too, and it's just a phase and it will pass. Hang in there!

Aren't our children inventive. They do it to be in control or get what they want out of you as the parent. I bet it works right. I kinow it would be hard to do but you have to ignore it and not give him a reaction, he'll eventually quit if he doesn't get attention for it.
