I am 11 weeks pregnant and have had an internal and external ultrasound and both times my baby's heartbeat was 171bpm the dr and the technician said that was perfectly normal and good and that the technician said she has seen the heartbeat up too 185bpm and they were all very healthy babies.

Absolutely.. a child's heart rate beats much much faster than an adult's ..especially an infant...and unborn child.. you'd be surprised. It flutters sooo fast !!
As you get older, the heart rate slows down.
If you have any concern about it, which is perhaps your intuition kicking in, I suggest you go see your doctor.
All the best for you and your baby !

Yes, it's normal. How fast is your baby's heart beating? When I first heard my baby's heartbeat, it was beating around 160 beats per minute.

How did you hear it anyway? Did you have an ultrasound at your doctor's office? If so, your doctor or sonographer should have told you whether your baby is doing fine or not.

My baby's heartbeat was at 160 bpm at 12 weeks, and last week at 16 weeks it was the same. The doctor says that's perfectly healthy (she joked with me though and said it was a girl, she said the old wives tale said that a boy was 140 bpm and under and it is a girl if it is over 140 bpm.)

an unborn baby's heartbeat is supposed to beat fast..a lot faster than our own...it also reminds me of a washing machines sound...being at 8 weeks is a good time to get to a doctor and have the necessary tests and next steps taken so you can ensure your baby is and stays healthy...good luck with this and peace be with you...

Completely normal-I am pregnant too-25 weeks- and my son's heart is about 160 bpm. That is really fast. All unborn childrens hearts are that fast-you should be worried only if it is not fast-that could signal a heart problem.

my wife is having our second child and from what i remember that babies heartbeats at about 2 beats per seconds or 120ish per minute. i could be wrong but i s much faster than the normal heartbeat of us humans. Goodluck with your pregnancy. what has the doctor said. if they didnt say anything then dont worry. you dont need the extra stress.

That is the best thing! Around that time, your baby's heartbeat should range between 120-180. As time goes on, your baby's heartrate with slow....and be closer to "normal". Congrats on the healthy baby!
