Sounds like they are looking for a *right* trapezoid.
You can't just say trapezoid, because that doesn't require the shape to have any right angles. A picture of a right trapezoid is given below:
(Note: with their clues, it could actually be any polygon with at least 4 sides. For example it could be a five sided polygon, with a couple right angles and one set of parallel sides. (You know, the little house with a pointy roof we all drew when we were little)... and there are other shapes too.
But for this question, I'd go with *right* trapezoid.

OK, it's one of those 4-sided things like home plate on a baseball field. The top comes to a point, and the bottom is a square. Like:
/\
| |
__
Imagine that the lines are connected. That way, it'll have 2 right angles in the square part, two parallel sides on the straight sides (not the bottom or top) and the two sides that come to a point won't be parallel. Whoops. Not 4-sided. 5-sided. A pentagon. That's what I meant. So I thought about home plate instead of a government building. Sue me.

I wouldn't say it's a pentagon. A regular pentagon has 5 equal sides, which means there would be no right angles. I would say it's a trapezoid.

You could be a couple of things. Especially if there is no limit to the number of sides that you have. The simplest would be an irregular pentagon. Basically you could have a square with a triangle put on top of it. It would look like a house. Kind of hard to describe on here without a way to draw it.

Your a Right trapazoid or pentagon(like a house) you cannot just say a trapazoid because they have acute angles and OBTUSE angles. no right angles unless their right trapazoids. does he use the everyday math program? does he have an SRB (book with hard cover with all sorts of deffentions and stuff) if he uses this program also check the home link help thing also known as "as you help your child with their homework" best of luck

it could be EITHER a right trapezoid or a pentagon. in fact it could be a number of things... but since it is a 4th grade homework it is probably a right trapezoid.
