I think Guns and Roses had pretty good solos. But at the age of 14 i dont think I have heard much music till now compared to other older metalheads around the world.(though i have heard quite a lot of music).

Slash is good, but far from amazing. Here are my Top 5.
1. Comfortably Numb (Solo #2)-Pink Floyd
2. Hallowed Be Thy Name-Iron Maiden
3. Child in Time-Deep Purple
4. Stairway to Heaven-Led Zeppelin
5. Freebird-Lynyrd Skynyrd

Yes I know that only one of these is metal, but these guitar solos own all others.

another brick in the wall has a pretty good solo, but does not deserve a place in the top 5

Guns N Roses will definitely be in the top 5, it was at #1 in a guitar magazine a couple of years back.

That solo in sweet child of mine is brilliant...i just saw an interview with Slash and he said"it was the best sounding guitar I've ever heard"

but my 2 faves are...

"Ashes of American Flags" Wilco/Kicking television...Nels Cline is god, he may be a bit much for a 14 year old, but his work with Wilco is mind bending.

"Sultans of Swing"...Dire Straights...pure finger picking genius.

My favorite two guitarist don't do solos...but...check out Sonic Youth, Lee Renaldo and Thurston Moore play like nobody else. Pure Genius.

Keep Rockin...And Hendrix used tons of effect pedels, a wha/wha and asorted fuzz boxes.

Drum solos.. Rush.. Neil Pert... even wrote a book called the autonomy of a drum solo. He is the Master..
Bass Player.. Rush.. again, Getty Lee ..Have to listen to him to believe what he does. Was crowned the best bass player in Rock numerous times in the 80's.
Guitarists? Slash is good.. But Eddie Van Halen started it all, but then there is Igvie Maubsten (spelling?) ... Killer guitarist.
The all time King though? Has to be Jimi Hendrix.... again, you have to listen and just be in awe... and remember he was doing all this magic without pedals, or phase shifts.... amazing.
Hope that helps.
