80% of humanity, the religious folks, don't need to ask the meaning of life, the church tells them....the supernatural explanation. But the rest of us can't swallow religious dogma, because there's no evidence. Nobody can prove that there life after death, that people are tortured or rewarded after life or that there's invisible spirits running around.
I've come to two conclusions recently:
1. Life has no meaning
2. Life has a million meanings.
First, there's a certainty that death and annihilation awaits not only you, but the Earth in general. It's an astonomical certainty that our sun will supernova and leave the earth a burnt crisp, not to mention all the other extinction level events around the corner.
Second, the million things that give us meaning are the pleasurable experiences we can conjure up during the short period we are here on the earth, in the form of the relationships we have with our kids and other people, and the 'housekeeping' types of purposes. What i mean by that are the curing disease, ending hunger, improving literacy, reducing crime, preventing war, helping other kinds of things.

The generic answer is "Life is what you make of it" So the meaning is up to you, but I think the meaning has nothing to do with humans. Life or what makes up life=energy is what is important and infinite. The school system is a good analalogy to the point of life. You learn a grade and then move up to another and so on. Life is similar in that you move up and on all the time. Through lives and deaths, but the meaning of all these lives and deaths creates a big ball of energy a source for the creator to expand and somehow grow or move up and on as well. This is all my personal feeling based on logic, intuition and putting some things together, but what the creator grows into or why we need each other is another question. It is strange that we need God as much as perhaps he needs us. We humans have an innate need to know where we came from, why, etc. God obviously does not want to be forgotten. The problem is that humans make up what we think he, she, it is. Sorry for rambling.

For one who has placed his faith in Jesus, life has meaning. I am preparing for an eternity in heaven. In the mean time I am telling other people about the love of God demonstrated through the vicarious death of Jesus for our sins. I teach Philosophy, so I can use it as a platform to express my faith to the intelligentsia. Christianity is a rational faith, God encourages us in the Bible to use our intelligence to His glory. "Love the Lord your God with all heart, soul, MIND and strength." Please recall, the early church fathers were all philosophers, they had to combat Gnosticism. Read John 1:1-18, Colssians 1:15-18.
