I posted a question about my friends getting married. Well they're actually going through with it. One's seventeen and the other's sixteen and they are getting married to get her away from her father. Yes it is legal, the age in her state without parental consent is fifteen for women and seventeen for men.

Well they are getting married in a few days and once again I worryt for their well being, kinda seems like they're setting themselves up for a crash. I still want to help them though. So basically I was wondering if, since they are both independant of their houses and married will the state still provide for their education? I think that they want to finish school and are both really smart, I hate to see intelligence go to waste, and do want them to be happy. He's done a lot for me and even if I think he's making a mistake I want to help him in any way I know how.

Please understand I already have my own opinions on this. I'm just tring to help them stay in school, that's the point behind this question. All I want to know is if there is any way to keep them in school without parental support.

Yes...they may even qualify for more since they will be independent of parental income. Government grants need not be paid back...EVER. Student loans are very low interest and you don't begin re-paying until 6 months after graduation. Don't assume this couple will "crash". I know a couple who were married at ages 15 & 16...30 years later they are still together, own a very lucrative business and have 2 adult college educated kids. Sometimes people are much older emotionally than their perceived years. Continue to support and be a good friend

you dont get married just to run away from the problems. It isnt healthy. Marriage is a hugeeee deal and they need to consider the issues you are presenting.

even though its getting down to the last few days before the wedding try to present these issues in a loving way. They need to understand what they are getting into.

Set them free. Some lesson are never learnt by telling but by experience. I hear you and I feel your pain, but you know what, until the voice of reason hits them whatever you do will be in vain.

I would help in whatever way I can but also keep telling them that I do not approve of what they are doing, and without getting emotionally involved, lest I get hooked up too you know...

in most states they can still receive government aid, as long as they don't make a lot of money and keep their grades above a certain average.
