Crouching Tiger was all about the special effects. I didn't think it looked real (although most martial arts movies aren't projected as "real") but Daggers was different. First it was a love story which caught me off guard. Then came all the fighting stuff. It took a back seat to the actual story and that's what I loved about it.

Crouching Tiger was released first in this country, although Hero was made the same year, I believe. House of Flying Daggers is the most recent. None of the films are sequels to each other. The thing they all have in common is that they were all directed by the same man, and Zhang Ziyi (sometimes she reverses the names in the credits) is in all three films. (Her role is largest in House of the Flying Daggers, though.)
I like all three films. I think Hero is the most visually stunning, and has the most mystery in it. Crouching Tiger is a more "classical" film and House of the Flying Daggers is the most emotional. They all have amazing martial arts/balletic scenes. My favorite from Crouching Tiger is the scene shot in the bamboo forest, in Hero the stylistic duel on the water, and in House of Flying Daggers, the "echo game" dance scene from the beginning.

Couching Tiger Hidden Dragon was released first & won an oscar for best foreign film. It was directed by Ang Lee. House of Flying Dagger has nothing to do with Couching Tiger. It was directed by Zhang Yimou who also made Hero. Personally I thought Hero is better than Flying Dagger.

Crouching came first and is unrelated to House. Personally, I was not crazy about the House of Flying Daggers. It just seemed so badly paced to me. But, if you do like it, you should definitely check out CTHD. That movie is one of my favorites. Great actions sequences and two, interwined, moving love stories.
Someone has already mentioned that you might like Hero. That one was also very good. The visuals in it were spectacular. I'll also add Raise the Red Lantern (also directed by Zhang Yimou). It does not have any martial arts, but the story is very good though tragic.

I thought House of Flying Daggers was the better of the two, but if you check out Iron Monkey(1993) I think you might like that a little better. And what about Jet Li's Fearless, greatest fight scenes BUT ALSO excellent and emotional story as well!

Crouching was made first. They're not sequels to each other. Try another fantastic movie titled Hero. It has beautiful scenery and wonderful colours depicting symbols oif everyman hero. You'll like it.
