y = 2^x is an exponential equation, which equals log(2)y = x.. where (2) is the base.

2^x represents 2 to the x power (x is a variable and can be anything that satisfies a given equation)

So technically, 2^x is 2*2 'x-1' times, so if x = 5, it is 2^5 = 2*2*2*2*2
