Hi, I was hoping you guys can help me out. I have a 2005 Honda Accord. When I went to school and back today, the car was fine. Tonight when I went to pick up my girlfriend, I pulled out of the driveway and started driving and noticed a very loud screeching sound which only occurs when the car is in motion. When I backup, it's not as loud. Gradually the sound got softer but it's still there. We happened to have very heavy rain these past two days, so I do not know if that has anything to do with it.
Since the car is still rather new, I hope it has something to do with the water maybe getting in somewhere and not something more serious.

Thanks for your responses.
It's not the parking brake.
I'm pretty sure the sound is not from the engine.
The sound doesn't get worse or better when I make a turn. It just makes that sound when the car is in motion.
I only have 20,000 miles on it, and it's only been 2 years does the belt wear out that fast? If it's anything serious i do still have my warranty at least.
Someone on the side of the road told me the rain may have something to do with it. I've driven in a couple of rather deep puddles today, the rain was coming down hard for most of the day.

Thanks Enrique for your response.
It does not squeak when i'm in park nor does it squeak anymore when I turn. As long as the car is in motion i hear it.

If it were a belt, it should squeak when you rev the engine in Park, without moving. If it were the power steering, it should squeak when you turn the wheel while the car is stopped. Besides the car is barely a year old, nothing should be worn out. Just to prove it's not a belt - try coasting downhill with the engine off (in Neutral) briefly (carefully) and see if it still squeaks.
I would guess it's the brakes, or something caught in the brake caliper that's grinding against the disc. Not sure how you'd fix it though - blast it with water/air see if it goes away. Otherwise... have someone look at it.

Does the screeching sound like its coming from the engine, even though it's a new car it could be that one of your belts is loose, simply tighten the belt to get rid of the sound.

if you went into a puddle, chances are that you ripped off a piece of the road or stone, which is stuck in your wheel, or some other moving part. Since you say that the sound does not come while idling, the stone could be stuck in some part of the drive train. like at the end of one of the drive shafts.

do no longer issue, i'm quiet confident that this noise is coming from between the belts. the clarification is, *one belt or greater ought to have been placed on ed yet did no longer harm yet, so which you would be able to detect it, and replace be4 making a issue. examine BELTS FROM inner & OUTER aspects via YOUR HAND, replace if neede. * OR One belt or greater is greater / much less tensioned than frequent. The belts must be tensioned properly yet no longer too lots. you are able to examine this element via putting hand on the belt, press down and watch if it is going down for one million/2 inch , so it particularly is unquestionably tensioned, yet while greater or much less, it would be adjusted via an electrician. the answer is regulate the rigidity of all belts, in case you chanced on them right adjusted and not weared, purchase belts spray, it particularly is unquestionably regular on the provider station mini markets and spray each and all of the belts on a similar time as engine is off, then start up engine for a on a similar time as, provide up the engine, re-spray returned, repeat untill the noise stops. take exhilaration in making use of, Regards, wish to get your feed returned.

That's usually a problem caused by the fan belts. Have them checked out.

Sounds like the fan belt needs replacing. When they're worn they get even noisier when it's raining Get it checked and replaced. (Though cheaper if you can get someone to tighten it up for you)

sounds like you got a rock or something stuck in one of your brake calipers. jack up the front end and spin the wheels by hand, you should be able to tell where its coming from that way.

My husband is a mechanic and he says it is the serpentine belt. It either needs to be replaced or tightened.

It is possibly your power steering. It may just need power steering fluid or your belt could be bad. I would check the fluid first.
