Sadly....yes

I had an account for a month got my gamer score up
and then it expired so I decided to make another account
and then after a month that one expired

so I just bought a 1 year so I can keep my gamerscore up with every game I play

no you do not. there is a free version that comes with the 360 it just limits the amount of stuff that you can do.
