If you want modern Internet stuff, you need a "high speed" conncection. If not, you can use a phone connection.
The difference in speed will show up as to how fast pages load and especially pictures.
There are 2 high speed connections for homes. One is cable and the other is dsl. The first is from the guys who bring cable tv to your area. The second is from the phone company. Both need to come to your house and give you a modem ( a box that connects the lines to your PC).
There is also some software that needs to be installed.
It is so worth it. Good luck.

You didn't tell us which country you are in. There are 100s of ISP (internet providers) worldwide.

Noone needs to come to your house. You choose an ISP. For broadband internet they will send you software, a modem and a couple of filters. You install the software and plug in the modem and filters (these are so you can use the telephone at the same time as the internet). Then you put in the username and password they gave you and you're ready!

You will prob need a credit or debit card for payment.

Oh and don't go with AOL (they have never been the same since they ditched Connie).

I'm pretty the fact that you're a girl is gonna increase the number of answers you get. Besides that I have nothing. Don't know much about computers myself.

Assuming you want descent speed, the easiest solution is to contact your local cable company to see what high-speed services they offer. They will bring out and Cable modem and will configure your PC to work with it. There are alternatives, but this is the easiest "All-in-one" and it doesn't involve you having to get walked through setup procedures over the phone.

Good Luck

I recommend Verizon Broadband or Roadrunner. Usually they come to your house to set up some things.

Verizon is DSL though, and Roadrunner is thru a cable modem.
