I am 2 days past my period and this morning I took a test and followed all the instructions exactly. After 5 mins I looked and there was a faint line. Should I trust it as a positive? I am using a test strip, can the line turn up if you are not pregnant?

Do you think that after a missed period you can still only have a faint line? I thought after missed period you would have a strong pregnant or not.

A faint line doses not mean you are pregnant wait at least a week or more then retest...

Personally I would use an over the counter one simply because they are completely covered the margin for error is drastically reduced. Typically a line is a line is a line doesn't matter how faint. Given that you've missed your period and you got a faint line I think it would be safe to say you're pregnant, but just in case, and this is just me, I would buy one from the store. Try Clearblue Easy Digital, worked great for me! Good luck, and I'd even venture to say Congrats on the new little one!

***I just saw your second part, yes you can get a faint line even after you've missed your period. Some women naturally produce less hormone or they rise slower than others, just because your test isn't indicating a strong positive doesn't mean a thing in the world. You may have conceived late in your cycle, you may have miscalculated the start date of your period, you may have used afternoon or evening urine, any number of things can make it faint, but if it's colored, like pink or blue, then it's a positive. Like I said, retest first thing in the morning and I bet you'll see it's darker then. Good luck!

You can still have a faint line after you missed your period. You can continue to have a faint line for quite some time. I would trust that the test is positive, false positives are very rare. If you are worried about it, go buy another test. But it sounds like you are pregnant, congratulations.

I doubt a faint line would be there if you weren't pregnant. When I got a positive test, I had to ask 2 other people to look just to make sure that second line was there because it was so faint. The test picks up on HCG hormone that is released during pregnancy and if you have a second line, there is HCG and you are pregnant. If you aren't sure though, you could always wait a week and retest.

From what I understand, there is no such thing as a false positive. The test is looking for the HG hormone, which would only turn up if you are pregnant. Retesting at later date would give you a darker line, but positive is positive no matter how faint the line is. If you want to verify right away, a blood test is the best way to go.

I'd say it was a fairly good indication you were pregnant. I had a faint line on my test - i went to the docs about two weeks after my missed period and the line was still faint - but in his words "generally there are no false positives - only false negatives".

My first blood test hCG levels were low too (something like 200) - but a week or two later they were something like 30,000!

And i am now happily 17wks pregnant :)

I would say that you are pregnant with the five of my children I had a faint line on my test strip at the doctors and then had a blood test to confirm. Go to your doctor for a blood test for a more accurate result. Good luck.

Two of the three times I was pregnant I had a faint line. The tests are 99% accurate.

depends. if the test line the faint version of whatever color the control line is, then it's most likely positive. if it's greyish, that's an evaporation line (even if it showed up right away) and should be read as a negative.

personally, I'd wait a few more days and retest.

This is what happened to me, and I ended up taking like 4 more tests to verify. I actually called the 800 number that is affiliated with the test that you are using and she told me even if it is the faintest line then it is positive because the hormone has to present to even make the line appear at all even if it is only slightly there.
