It's debatable. I don't agree with all the studies that AFI puts out, those are based on census polls, not live interaction with film historians or buffs like myself.
On a personal note and regarding genres, most of the films in my collective ( from 15 years ) can go either way with the general public.
In the long run, you, make the decision on your own as to what are influential, no matter what your age.

heathers, citizen kane (i hate this movie! but the cinematography was groundbreaking!), blade runner, wizard of oz, casablanca, godfather, scarface (both versions), some like it hot, tootsie, dog day afternoon
