i ran away from home right after i turned 18. I am married now, and would like to try to mend the relationships with my family. But it feels like unlees i go back and be just like them and follow their religion (which was partly why i left) i wont be accepted.

Why not send them a letter expressing your feelings and your hopes that they can respect the choices you've made and find a way to love you for the person you are.

Be sure to include various ways they can contact you (phone, address, email, etc.) so they can respond in the most comfortable way for them.

Consider inviting them to visit you to talk things over - try again, etc.

Approach them cautiously. Start slowly with light conversation. Drop HUGE hints that you have no intention of moving back, or joining their religion....

if you feel they will still be upset because of their religious beliefs then you already know their answer.
all you can do is talk be open and tell them how you feel about their religion. Is all you can do ..

i sure wish that we could have all the answers but we do not. ask for forgiveness from your family and then ask to start new.
