It amazes me and scares me quite a lot too how people believe what they read in a news paper without question...yet are totally paranoid about there government!...Don't you realise MPs can be kicked out of power by the people(OK granted not as quick as we would like some times but they go in the end!)where as the newspaper owners can do and say what they like knowing that know one except maybe MPs will question them...ha! and who believes there MPs right! ;-)
I'm not saying MPs don't lie because clearly some do, but it amazes me how some people can form there opinions on something that is basically the opinion of someone else or worse a complete distortion of facts.
Anyone else think like this or am I the only one getting sick of our b***s**t media?

Faith, hope and charity. That's the only reason I can think of for this belief. Every newspaper has an agenda - they have to get their funding from somewhere! The only stories I believe are the "cat stuck up tree" type stories... and I'm slightly suspicious of those.

I don't, I deliberately read two newspapers of differing political views and then make my own mind up knowing that I've done a better job than any biased media. At least in Britain the media isn't owned or part owned by the government or any political party except for the BBC who are quite prepared to disagree with the party in charge.Opinions and loyalties are often manipulated by the media so getting both sides of the story is important if not common sense, take what you read with a large dose of salts.

i personally don't. i've stopped reading the press and alas, i gave up on them 2 months ago. these days, newspapers print all sorts of bull and nonsense. and stuff like reality tv stars, the beckhams, paris hilton etc, which do my head in. frankly, who cares? cos i don't. i couldn't be arsed to do it anymore. i nowadays form opinions on things based on what other people have said about them- not newspapers, celebrity gossip mags. the media in britain is mostly crap anyway. i study media at university alongside journalism and yet the current state of jounalism in britain has put me off from being a jounalist for good. besides, i could do without all that flak and BS journos get these days from people of all quarters.
so no, i'd say you're not the only one, who has a problem with the british media. especially the newspapers.

I think about that all the time. One should take everything that the media throws out with a grain of salt. I too am getting tired of our BS media, especially in America. It's all about entertaining the masses here, which is why in between serious shows like a Nightline documentary about children starving in Africa, they make sure to throw in something funny and comical or maybe even scandalous in a commercial or two to keep people watching. Good question.

The problem you express isn't peculiar to just politicians and the news media. The worst lies are those that have a solid foundation of truth, and the worst liars and those who do this deliberately. I had the unfortunate experience to have dealings with such a person, and it was very difficult to determine what was truth and what was made up because the lies were very carefully dressed up as truth.

Gawd! I thought I was the only one who hates the press more than I do Politicians. Politicians are answerable to parliament and the people, Journalists are not answerable to anyone exept their editor who only cares about headlines, not about the truth. I hate the Brit press like poison. Language fails me in describing how slimy and evil, venal and mendacious they are. Daily Mail? Der Sturmer more like.

My mother would say, ''But they wouldn't put it in the paper if it wasn't true''. In her old age, I think she changed some, but, as she was so honest (to a fault), she'd never believe anyone would lie. She lived in her own little world.
Maybe alot of people are like this---------I'd like to think. But, I am afraid I really believe they are just not too smart.
