my job stressed me out too and I had to go on disability twice during my pregnancy, and I went on Temp dis. and received 70% of my paycheck, and after my son was born I continued to receive it too, act fast and see if you can get it even if you lost your job, hell you could even sue if you act fast enough

Ha! I have been on the phone arguing about this all day! This is what I learned (because I am on leave for bed rest for pre-term laborn also). You can try to claim short term disablity if your company has it, or had it prior to being laid off. You can try to claim unemployment, but it has lots to do with whether you were FIRED or LAID OFF. You probably cannot get FMLA leave because you are no longer an employee and were not there for a year to begin with. Call your local Workforce Commission and see what they have to say... they are in charge of unemployment and stuff. Your rules might be different, as I live in TX and you live in NC. Hit up WIC while you can, that is what we are doing. It isn't money, but all sorts of cheaper food that is important while your are pregnant. Good luck!

You still qualify for disability for the time your doctor determines you cannot work and for 6 weeks from the time the baby is born. However you do not qualify for Paid family Leave without a job. I wish you luck. Maybe you could file for unemployment since you were laid off in the time you have no disability.

You should go down to you State Unemployment/Disability office, in California they call it the EDD. You need to speak with someone so they can explain what is available for you relating to disability and unemployment. You amy also want to go to your Social Services department for medical benefits and welfare if necessary. It is very important that you and your baby have income and medical care right now.

Disabilty comes from the state in which you live not your employer. At least that was the case for me. I was put on bedrest in July due to a incompetent cervix. I just had my baby oct 21 so my maternity leave should be kicking in soon. I live in ny and in ny the short term disabilty which is what i was considered is paid out for only 26 weeks. Contact your state labor office for more information

first, did you get laid off or did you get fired? because if your company laid you off (this means they couldn't afford you) then your entitled to a nice severance package. But if you were fired (let go on the companies own terms) then you get a severance package but not as good as if you were laid off. Second, as for the disabilty for being on bed rest. I'm not too sure about that, but I know you can apply for E.I benefits (employment insurance) the best bet is to check with your local EI office.
