My sister in law just had this problem. Mint oil repells them they don't like the smell. Also if you set out a bowl of soda they drink until full and then the gas causes their stomach to rupture.

Poison or trap or a ferret it. Probably more than 1, as rats in estrous mate about 500 times a day. The problem with poison is they get sick and very thirsty. If a dog or cat eats the poisoned rat, it can kill the pet. Also, they will hide and die in a wall and you will be reminded by that death smell. Rats are smart. I've heard that just the smell of a ferret will scare rats into leaving. See if you can borrow one or some cage cleanings.

There are many ways to get rid of the rats. Electric repellers do not give better results in this case. Keep a fried eatable in the rat-trap during the night. The trap should have a better spring action. Just a little touch to the eatable should make the door of the trap closed. Such good traps are available in the market. Mostly you would find this one quite successful. Sometimes we find rats that are more intelligent than us. They get escaped. In such cases, buy some rat-poison biscuits and keep one mixing with some fried food in the rat hole. Definitely it works out. But one inconvenience we find in this method. The rat gets killed after consuming the poison-mixed food and its dead body lies somewhere inside the hole which we cannot easily find out. For a few days, a foul smell spreads. We have to dig the hole further deeper and see that the dead rat is cleared. Please act sensibly and choose a better way to get rid of the rat. Good luck!

Repellers dont work. Go to the store and buy some d-con and put one in the pantry, and one behind your fridge if you can, and anywhere else that food might be, but beside the d-con, take a lid from a jar, baby food jar or mayonnaise jar for example and fill it with water and put it right beside the d-con. The rat or even mice will eat the d-con and that makes them thirsty and so they drink the water and then the d-con swells up in their belly and they die. You will find them dead on the floor...guaranteed to work....

Rat control is a significant concern for homes and businesses . Rats and mice cause a huge loss of food worldwide. Besides eating our food they spoil it by contamination with their feces, urine, or fur. They can be found not only in our homes, but supermarkets ,restaurants, warehouses, food processing facilities ,livestock facilities, and farm fields.

Without rat and mice control, they also cause damage to our buildings by their burrowing and gnawing activity .The word rodent means "to gnaw". Rodents will gnaw through many types of materials in order to reach a location including lead sheathing, cinder block, aluminum siding and some concrete. They are able to squeeze through very small openings:1/4 inch for mice and 1/2 inch for rats.

Rats & Mice can certainly be one of your biggest problems. Rat control can be a" do-it-yourself project" with professional strength rodent baits and traps. At Do-It-Yourself Pest Control,Inc.,we offer professional advice on control and exterminating your rodent problem....whether you would choose rodenticides to control and exterminate rats or you would choose traps.

if you live in an independent house, keep a dog. thats one sure fire way of ensuring that rats don't come. Have you tried sealing your drains and other crevices to stop the rat from coming? Try to make sure that the house is kept clean and airy. rats tend to not come to areas that smell 'new'.

all the best

Keep all trash sealed and take it out anytime you throw food away. Avoid giving rats a reason to hang around your house. Make sure that you use a garbage can, don’t just leave your trash hanging out in a garbage bag. When you throw the garbage bag out put it in a dumpster or a closed garbage bin for disposal. If it is just hanging out around your house it’s easy access for rats.

Seal up all the food in your house and keep everything in closed containers. If the food is left hanging out in the open it could attract rats or other pests. Try to keep your house generally clean and definitely pay close attention to where you leave your food. If you live in an area that is prone to rat problems like a city then be extra careful.

Remove any ability for rats to enter your home by sealing all holes in your walls, doors and screens. Check your garage doors, chimneys, dryer and air conditioning vents, and crawl spaces to ensure that they are properly sealed to the outdoors. If a rat can find its way in your house then they can set up shop and start breeding. The best thing you can do is prevent that.

For the worst infestations, as a very last resort, you might want to go for pest control services and get total and effective control over rodents.
