I had an octopus in an aquarium once. The answer is that it will eat anything that goes in the aquarium. I have seen it turn upside down, suckers out, and eat small brine shrimp. The shrimp are caught by individual suckers and then transported sucker by sucker to the mouth. If a fish goes in the aquarium, the octopus will send one of its tenticles (one of the two below its eyes) and catch the fish with just the tip. It will then play the fish like a fisherman quickly wearing it out and then it will grab it with all tenticles. They will eat hermit crabs in large shell. Nothing is safe. They are amazing.
