I just took a new job and I don't know if it is considered rude to eat at my desk. There is a small kitchen area (very small, not place to eat). I never eat food that smells. I typically eat half a sandwhich or a nutrigrain bar. Is this acceptable? I dont see other people around me eatting at their desk, but then again, I don't look. I figure they must because I sometimes smell food cooking.

Definitely ask - some companies will frown on it because of bugs or cleaning purposes (even if you're not messy). If you're new to the company that's definitely a legitimate question (and chances are they'll appreciate you taking the time to ask).

This depends on the corporate climate. Befriend someone, and then find out what they do about eating. Some places really frown on eating at your desk, so you have to make sure it's OK to do so before you start doing it. It might be that eating at your desk is permitted only at certain times. You need to ask someone what the "unofficial" eating policy is ASAP.

I don't see a problem eating at your desk. I do that all the time and so do most of my coworkers. As long as you clean up after yourself and that the smell of your food isn't strong, then it should be ok.

I would ask around as to what others are doing. In time you may see what others are doing or you can ask your supervisor what policy is. Be clean and tidy, both visibly and germwise as the workplace is usually very dirty. Good Luck.

Of course. Just be considerate of your co-workers and chew with your mouth closed. Also, I wouldn't eat highly spiced food as it can be offensive to others. And clean up your mess.

Happy eating

Just ask someone if it is against policy.
