It depends partly on whether I buying it from the laundromat or if I brought my own! But most of the machines have a recommendation on them. Also the attendant should be able to tell you how much to use. Most powder detergents (and liquids) are about 1 cup (8 oz) per "load". What is a load? Laundromat machines definitely tell you how many loads they are rated for. If you are using a double-load machine and you only have it half-full of laundry, just use one cup. If you fill it up, use two cups.

I run the machine with very little detergent, and when the cycle finishes, I run the machine again with no detergent at all (so as to eliminate any residue), because I'm allergic to some of the detergents

I would have to say i use enough to see the suds i cant help it i like to watch the clothes wash and dry its relaxing and mesmerizing
