Depends on the situation.
It's better to be yourself but that's not always true. Sometimes you need to really think about this stuff. Are you going to just be yourself or are you going to think and be smart about this? Sometimes you have to blend in with the crowd to stay out of trouble. Trouble like maybe bullies? from getting jumped, from getting picked on. There's always different reasons to try and be someone your not. It's not always necessaryly that being yourself is more important. It's about being smart about the situation you're in.

It depends on the situation - what the popular people do is often good common sense!
But when you look deeper, you will find that it's best not to decide based on "coolness" or "popularity". Decisions made for your own best interests, and things that you do for a reason Other than "to be cool" will lead to a life that you live, not one that you live for someone else.
So dance because you want to dance, not because everybody's dancing. Pick and choose the style you want, whether or not it's popular.
The "coolest people" in your school aren't that way because they are trying to be cool: they are there because what they do/wear/think looks cool to somebody else. They are just out there doing their own thing - whether or not the crowd follows has nothing to do with it.

tricky question! it is hard to realize that what is "yourself", since many of what we are is driven from our unconscious which is affected by those "cool" people as well as many other things.
you should also take this into consideration that this is "you" who is choosing and deciding to model cool people (and even defining who's cool or not, sometimes)
again i should say very tricky because the matter of "you" is not being bordered from "they", and vise verse!!
but if you are asking about importance, i think the most important thing is to be a "yourself" that is aware about defining who those "cool people" are, then the interaction wouldn't go so far from you.

Alot of times it is hard to be your own person when all your friends are telling you to follow the crowd, but you have to listen to your subconscious and do what you feel is right. If you even question something, then you are having doubts that it is right and therefore you should avoid doing it unless you can feel totally in the clear about doing it.
The prisons are full of people who thought they were cool and did things that wound up not being cool...most of the time they were illegal, and that is why they are where they are. I wonder how many of them feel "cool" in prison when they become some big burly guys bi-ch. Real cool, huh?
It usually is alot cooler to be the one who can stand up to their friends (if that's what you want to call them) and say NO, than it is to do something they will regret later.
How Cool are you???

Yes, i know it's a total cliche, but it is so true. in the end, you'll always have yourself, so you should at least know who you are. If we all became cool people clones then the world wouldn't be a very bright place. Embrace uniqueness, it's the only thing we can call our own..

I think it is best to do what one cool dude did. His name is Jesus and he did a really cool thing. He gave his life for yours. I think that is the coolest thing anyone could do. As a matter of fact, he traded his life for all of us on planet earth from Adam to the last human. Now that is more important.
( Jhn 3:16) For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.

To be yourself, but honestly I think people say that, but still do what cool people do. Personally I be myself most of the time, which kind of labels me as a loser, but I really don't care!

If you can't be yourself, then who are you? A puppet on a string? Most people are just mere puppets on a string, following others and doing what's "cool." Pinocchio comes to mind.
No matter what, be yourself and not a puppet. If you're a puppet, cut the strings.
