It would have been viewed (and I believe rightfully so) as a purely political move had he resigned prior to the elections. To do this for pure political gain would have been grossly unfair to our soldiers on the front lines.
I don't think, given the recent opposition from high ranking Generals right on down to the troops in the field, that he was going to stay much longer anyway.
The "whoppin' " that the Republicans received in this mid-term election sealed his fate.

I think he was more fired then resigned. Bush knows that if doesn't get along with the Democrats, Congress will be in a gridlock for the next two year, which won't do much for Bush's legacy

Because he was forced to. Look who is now mostly in the government DEMOCRATES. I wouldn't doubt that they will try to get a resignation out of Bush here soon. it is BS. All the democrates care about it power not the American people
