if the meal was $8.39 and u wanted to leave a 15% tip what would that be?
It is not my homework it is somethin' we talked bout in class.
So how would u figure it out.

Multiply 15% times $8.39.
To make it easy, think of it as 10% plus 5%.
You can easily find 10% of $8.39. It's $.839, which is about 84 cents.
And 5% is half as much as 10%, so that's another 42 cents.
Total tip = 84 + 42 = 126 cents, or $1.26.
You could call it $1.25, but generally you should round up, or even add something ... so anywhere from $1.25 to $1.50 would be OK. If you want to send a message about disappointing service, leave less than 15%. If you want to send a message about BAD service, leave less than 10% (even MUCH less). And if you want to send a message about exceptional service, leave more than 20%.
That's a lot of different percentages that you MIGHT have to calculate. But if you can do the very simple 10% calculation, you should be able to figure out any of the above-mentioned percentages.

Getting ten percent is easy, and then just divide by two to get five percent, then add the two.
$8.39 * 10% = $0.84
0.84 * 1/2 = $0.42.
.84+.42 = $1.26.

I would round the bill up to $8.40. I would then calculate 10% of $8.40 is 84 cents. Five per cent of $8.40 is 42 cents. The appropriate tip would be $1.26.

I eat in restaurants, not restraints, so maybe my math woudn't apply...
