In Michigan, what age do you have to be in order to have a official job? Do you have to pay income taxes? If you can get a job at a young age, what kind of jobs are available for pre-teens/going into teen years?

legally 16, some states let you get a work permit at 15 1/2. If your parents claim you on their taxes (which they do), then you can be exempt from taxes until you're 18.

Doing other types of jobs until you reach 16 is a great experience. I would suggest babysitting, yard work, running errands for older people, car washing, house cleaning, etc. Also, some local restaurants may let you bus tables for cash. These are jobs that people can pay you by cash and you don't have to be "on their payroll".

Don't know the age in MI..most states it's 15 with parents signature, a work permit is needed, talk to school counselor. You are allowed to work only so many hours also. You do not have to pay taxes until you are 18....rather they can take them out but you should get it all back...don't know. Look on IRS website.
For jobs, if you're 15 there is fast food, stocking at grocery stores or bagging groceries, dog walking, shoveling snow, raking leaves, things like that. I suggest you make some flyers and put them up where seniors are, Churches, The local Senior Center...with permission. They have very few people willing to help them, even their families don't want to or are too busy to help them. You can walk their dogs, take out trash, read to them, sit with them and help after they've had procedures, minor ones haha. you could do errands for them. write letters and cards. They really need help and you could be making a really great friend. Read the book. Thursdays with Morrie. A true story and a marvelous way to learn a lesson. good luck baby boy, you sound like a great kid, I wish you well.
