He didn't win anything yet. But I'll tell you now that he won't win it. If he does, it's cause he is a yankee

Nelly Fox, Ricky Henderson, Phil Rizzuto, are a few of the non sluggers who have won MVP. The Award is not for the player with the best offensive numbers, though it has turned INTO that. Its for the Player with the most singular Value to their individual team in the League... Jeter, Morneau in Minnesota, Ortiz, and Dye were the most Deserving of the Award.. but with Boston Imploding, that eliminated Ortiz, The Whitesox not even making playoffs, there went Dye, and That Left Morneau and Jeter.. and im a Yankee fan, and in all fairness, ild have given it to Morneau, but theres no way in Hell the Writers are going to give it to Justin Morneau over The Captain of the Biggest team in the Sport, especially when Jeter IS deserving of it. there was a point in the season where Derek and Giambi Put the yankees on their backs and carried them when people were dropping like flies from injuries. Ild have given it to The Minnesota Outfielder/infielder, but dont get it twisted derek Is as deserving.. You dont need 40hrs and 130rbi to win an MVP,, thats a Falacy of the Award.. its not for Best Offensive Player, its for Most Valuable Player.

The MVP wasn't announced yet. It will be announced on November 21st. I do think that Derek Jeter deserves the AL MVP. He batted over .340, but that's not the only thing he did. He became the 6th person ever to go 5-5 in the postseason and he also drove in lots and lots of runs and RBI's. Also, he led the Yankees in stolen bases.
Also, MVP is Most Valuable Player both at-bat and on the field. You have to admit, Derek made some outstanding plays at shortstop this year. That's what got him a Gold Glove for SS once again. He also won Hank Aaron Award.
I don't know where you got that he didn't win the MVP. Maybe you heard wrong. He didn't win the Player's Choice Award, which was announced today. (For the AL, Jermaine Dye did.)

I'm not a Yankees fan but I feel Derek deserves the MVP, he just does so much that does not get put into stats, he brings great defence, makes clutch plays and is the catalyst for the for the offence. Derek is also the reason why the Yankees are the team they are, I don't care who says what no matter how many bats the Yankees have they're half the team they are without his leadership.

By far. Went to the playoffs. MVP is the most valuable player. Papi Didn't carry his team to the playoff. Jeter had horrible pitching and A-Rod next to him. Giambi wasnt consistent, Sheff,Matsui, and Cano all missed time. Jeter stayed injury free for the most part, made the usual amazing plays and batted very well. Papi is a great player and a great guy ,but is team was not in the playoff and the team was a little healthier and pitching wise was better for most of the season. You dont need homeruns to win an MVP hence Eckstein winning WS MVP.
Derek Jeter-Al MVP
Howard-NL MVP
Might I had they both won hank aaron awards which are best offensvie players of respective league.

Jeter has a strong chance at MVP. I think he had a much better year than than those mentioned as potential cantidates. Nobody overwhelmed the others this year. Justin Morneau and Jeter are the only two legit cantidates in my opinion. Unfortunately total HRs and MVP sometimes equate in some voter's minds. Suzuki was an exception not long ago.
Jeter's merits is that he really helped the Yankees all season long. He had good offensive stats and a good year defensively.
This is how I see it. Morneau outhit everybody but Ortiz and Hafner. Dye's numbers are close to Morneau but I think Morneau had the better year overall. Jeter's offensive stats were close to this group.
I have no idea why Thome is even mentioned. HIs 42 HRs and 109 RBI. Thome is a DH so he gets marked down as having no defensive contribution. His 147 KOs and low BA (.288) furthor mark him down. So far as I'm concerned Thome is out of it.
Dye had a career best year. His KOs dropped to a good 118 while hitting 44 HRs and driving in 120 RBI. Dye is a defensive liability but he plays RF so that's not a big deal. Mournou out hit Dye by a solid margion though. So Dye's one sided bid for MVP in my opinion is meaningless. Dye got his stats on an offensive juggernaugt on the team with possibly the best offense in baseball last year.
Konerko had stats almost identical to Dye but a slightly lower. 113 RBI compared to Dyes 120 for example. So for same reasons Dye is elimanated I'd elimanate Konerko.
Ortiz. He hit 54 HRs but who cares? He did it in Boston with Manny Ramierez hitting in same line up. I think Manny had better offensive stats this year than Ortiz to be honest. However everybody sees the 54 HRs and goes ape. 137 RBI is the more important stat and it's a good one and Ortiz's only real claim. Though a third of those RBIs are Ortiz himself. Which to me says either he batted with empty bases most of the year or Ortiz was not a very good RBI man. Given the Redsox lineup I'd say the latter. Hard to picture the bases being empty all that often for Ortiz who should have had 150 RBIs with 54 HRs. Rarmierez had 102 RBIs in a partial year and 145 last year with 45 HRs in basically the same lineup. That again points to Ortiz not being a great RBI man. So Ortiz who does not play defensively did not really have that great a year offensively. It was a really good year but MVP calibur? No way.
Justin Morneau 130 RBI, only 7 less than Ortiz with only 34 HRs. Morneau had far fewer men on base and had little protection. Morneau was the offensive core of the Twins this year. Maur had an awesome BA but it seems like if Morneau didn't drive him in he didn't score. Morneau is a 1b so defense isn't a big deal but at least he played it unlike Ortiz and Thome.
Jeter, only 97 RBI but Jeter is a top of the order hitter and scored tons of runs. Jeter stole 30+ bases for the Yankees who are notoriously afraid to run. Jeter was a key part of the Yankees offense all year long. Played very good defense. I don't count Jeter as a leader. The Yanks lost thier leadership when O'Niel and Cone left. Since then the team has yet to taste the WS. Jeter did not stand up for A-Rod enough. The guy was in a slump and became the unfair target for the whole world it seemed.
So personally I'd pick Morneau with Jeter being second on my list. As a voter if I couldn't find support for Morneau I'd vote for Jeter rather than see somebody like Ortiz or Thome get it for hitting a bunch of bases empty HRs in meaningless games.

Straight up: I hate the Yankees, but I respect the game. So does Jeter. If my kid told me Jeter was his favorite player, I wouldn't have a problem with that.
Jeter deserves the MVP. So does Ortiz. Both of them carried their teams through heavy injuries. Ortiz actually had more to deal with. He may get some sympathy votes because he probably should have gotten it in 2005. Either way, it is down to the two of them.

Numbers?
OK.. consider this he bats second. So RBI's well he's not going to get them, or as many . He's not a clean up hitter, that's why you see huge numbers for players (RBI's) for Ortiz, for Rodriguez, they bat in the clean up spot.
Homeruns... consider that homeruns can win a game but are not the reason that games are won.... it's men on base and hits.
Hits... now that is where Jeter shines, on base percentage, that is where Jeter shines and his clutch hitting.... Second to none, that is where Jeter shines.
Stolen bases... just try to catch him
His defensive skills are proven, he's gotten the Gold Glove again.
MVP for a player that plays offense and defense(both sides only)... that is why I feel Jeter is deserving.
One last thing... Jeter truly enjoys the game of baseball. He embodies what any manager and teammate would ever want in a player
Derek Jeter.... 2006 AL MVP

He definitely should win MVP! I'm not being biased here...he put up great numbers for the team! He batted .343 with 118 runs scored, 214 hits, 39 doubles, 97 RBIs, and 34 stolen bases. He also won his 3rd straight Gold Glove so he obviously had solid defense!!!

Yes he should win. And no he did not have a "poor season" like one of the people said. He hit .344, 214 hits, 96 RBI, and stole a career-high 34 bases. He was one of the two Yankees to hit well against Detroit. The Yankees had a lot of injuries this year, and he held them together. Its crybabies like DH Ortiz who think that just because Jeter doesn't hit 40 homers that he doesn't do enough for his team. Jeter is the man, a pro all the way.
