My brother's cellphone was stolen from school today. He's writing exams and it's school policy not to allow students to keep their phones on them, to prevent cheating. They have a "system" where the device gets a stick-on label with the student's name on it, gets signed in and is put in a box which is supposedly supervised by the teacher. Once the exam was over, the phone was missing, meaning someone signed out 2 handsets.
I do not blame my brother, as he was simply following school rules...
My question is, should i hold the teacher/school responsible, as someone was obviously negligent?

you definitely can and should threaten with legal action. If the school can't even keep track of a phone, they should be ready to pay for it. It's even worse because they actually took it from the students. If they don't pay for it, make sure you get a lawyer and sue so they both give you the money for a phone and whatever was stored on it and stop taking things from students.

The teacher should have had it locked so someone could not get into it. Your parents and your brother need to talk to the principal.

I have always maintained that cell phones and pagers should not be allowed in schools. Boohoho for your brother's lost.
