Springfield is a fictional town that is not part of any state. When Mr. Burns was running for governor the state flag was shown at the end of his tv commercial. The slogan on the flag was not just another state". No state flag has that slogan. Thus they ca'nt live in a real state.

Springfield is the fictional city in which the TV series The Simpsons is set. It is located near Shelbyville and Capitol City in a state whose name is never mentioned until the non-canon episode "Behind the Laughter", where announcer Jim Forbes clearly says "this northern Kentucky family". The evidence is sufficiently contradictory, since Kentucky is landlocked while Springfield clearly has a port and access to the sea. (But if you look at county names in Kentucky, you can find most of the names of the Simpson characters, including Simpson County in southern Kentucky.) Shelbyville is a real town is located in Kentucky; however, Shelbyville, Illinois is adjacent to Springfield, IL.

They in no way say which state. in fact it somewhat is variety of of a working comedian tale the place they'll make it appear like they're approximately to declare which state and then something will ensue so as that they do no longer demonstrate it. Springfield, of direction, is the main undemanding call for a city or city interior the USA of a. Which makes some sense on account that while settlers have been searching for a place to place their properties they might seem for a place the place there replaced into sparkling water (spring) and the place they'd farm (field).

Illinois, city Springfield....or Kentucky....the state is never mentioned but in one episode an announcer said "Kentucky family" but the counties match Kentucky counties, however the geography fits that of Springfield, Illinois.
Some say theres no real state. If you are really that interested some guy dedicated his whole website on exploring and explaining the "Simpson's Springfield," based on various evidence from the show. Heres the link: http://www.snpp.com/guides/springfield.list.html

They aren't from a state. You'll notice in some episodes they joke about being from the heart of the USA, Springfield. The creators of the show purposely didn't have a state to keep it sort of neutral.

I think it is Illinois. There is both a Springfield and Shelbyville (Springfield's nemesis city) in Illinois.
They've never really said. It's kind of an ongoing joke/tease with the audience.

It is a satire and it fits lots of places and lots of family.
It is a cartoon, which mimic extremely exaggerated family and life situations, to emphasise the point and oddity of life.
PS:
The script is change to the area specific program, so if you hear, a place or radio station called out in your area people in California may hear different name station, it is just another trick to drive home the point.

They don't give a specific state because they are supposed to be the "All American" or everyman's family. They make jokes about almost pointing them out on a map, but in an episode when they are choosing a state to vacation to they have x's on the states they're banned from and its almost every state in the U.S.

They are not from any state. Anyone who thinks they are, don't watch the show. Springfield is like Anytown, USA. It's a generic city.
