I do have a son (19yo) and I want him to be true to himself. I hope I have influenced him to be a good person, but he has his own personality, his own strengths and weaknesses. All I want is for him to be happy being himself.

No Way!! I have a daughter. I want her to grow up happy. I have suffered from depression and anxiety problems for years. Bad childhood. I want her to grow up being unafraid of chasing her dreams, what people think of her, etc.

I do not want her to be like me. I do not like me. I want her to be outgoing and happy. I'm a depressed introvert. My brain has been half destroyed by alcohol and drug abuse. I have very little ambition. I hope she doesn't turn out like me or her father. She has a lot of potential and I'm trying really hard to steer her right.

I'd want them to be more assertive during childhood and young adulthood than I was. I'd want them to be more adventurous their whole life than I've been. other than those things, yes, I'd have them follow in my footsteps.
