I just washed a load of clothes and there is a HORRIBLE smell coming from the washing machine. It was just my 3 year old daughters clothes--nothing yucky. I also tossed in 6 new pairs of PJs that I took straight out of the package into the wash. Any ideas?

is this a new washer or old, has it been sitting out in the garage for awhile? It could be that the washer could have mildew if had been sitting for a long time, you may want to fill the washer with water and bleach let it run without a load in it and see if that clears it up.

You might want to run a full capacity load with some vinegar through your washer and see if it helps. Otherwise, there might be something that is accumulating water or needs to be repaired.

If its a mildewy smell , could be something stuck around the outside of the barrel and its wet and moldy now. Its probably been there for a while and now its got mold and fungus on it.Or a build up of lint which could have mold on it also. That's where all the missing socks go!!!

My question is how old is your washer? It could be old water that gets left behind. You might want to have to call a service man out to take a look.

most likely there is something under the agitator or dasher---you know the center thing......that isn't it you need to clean the waste water hose and the drain tube ----if that don't correct the problem then you could have a dead mouse in the wash machine cabinet------------please do not consider that i think your housekeeping habits are poor....things just happen....wc

Be sure your sewage lines are not backing up. Do all the other drains in your house/apt function properly?
