No. Congress would have blocked any of his misconceived attempts at anything. Like Bush now, he would've been a lame duck, which is why he preferred resignation rather than greater shame to his already tainted image.

In so many words, even if he hadn't resigned, he wouldn't have been able to do anything, so winning Congress is better.

who can say. But after all the Democrat whing and crying, they have have a hell of alot of action in the next two years or I'm voting straight Republican in 2008. They have talked the talk, now lets see em walk the walk.

Maybe certain policies will change by Congress, which could,
and should bring our true heroes home "ASAP" !
Still, let's hope the newly elected will do their part, and
turn this thing around ! Right ?
