I hate Christmas shopping

I don't like Christmas dinner

I don't like receiving presents at Christmas, because people only give you presents at Christmas so as not to be seen as a scrooge. And they always give you crap!

I don't like Christmas because there is always one family member that spoils it by getting completely drunk and starting arguments

I don't like Christmas because you feel forced to spend time with people (family members) you don't like

I don't like Christmas because it is all about commercialism

I don't like Christmas because of all the paper that gets wasted on wrapping presents and sending cards

And because of all the reasons I have mentioned I choose not to celebrate Christmas!

Me, i dont like christmas, infact i bloody well hate it.

i hate the fact that Christmas starts in mid November.

i hate the fact that i wont be ableto walk around my town centre without falling over irritating gits singing christmas carols and rattling tins uner my nose.

i hate the fact that it costs me a fortune very year.

i hate the fact that at work people who have been stabbing everyone in the back all year send cards out like they're Mother Theresa.

but most of all i hate sitting with people who dont want to be there at the family get-together at Christmas exchanging shitty presents that i dont want and pretending to be thrilled that someones bought me a book about interesting walks in East Anglia - well fook me sideways thats going to come in handy in West Yorkshire isn't it?

Oh and i hate turkey, and all the crap films that are on the tv.

I love Christmas, you only get one family so whether you like them or not, is one day too much to ask? If you hate Christmas that much, then the days means nothing so why does it matter that it's that day you end up spending with your family, who probably don't hate you and appreciate the fact you bother to turn up.

Have something different for dinner, the gifts are tokens, at least you know people who give you stuff, some people have nobody and nothing.

I love the atmosphere that it brings, even when I work Christmas day there is a nice felling about the place.

Buy Charity or recycled Christmas paper and cards, or ask people politely not to send them to you, instead of buying presents, give money to a cause, and if you hate the day that much, and really would rather work, then go and volunteer at a shelter or an old folks home or a childrens ward and get off your backside, or do you not hate it 'that' much that you'd do something for other people, who maybe do like Christmas but maybe don't have the choice to spend it with an awful family, get crap presents and overpriced cards and eat a terrible dinner?

I really dislike it too for similar reasons, but I suppose it is not Christmas as a festival - I am an athiest, but have nothing against it as a religious festival. Also, as much as it bores me to death, I would NEVER spoil it for the kids - and I always watch the Queen and I am not ashamed to admit - Miracle on 34th Street can still bring a lump to my throat.

As I said, the problem is not with Christmas per se, but people's attitudes. The whole "We have to do this, because it's Christmas." thing really gets on my wick. If you want to wish peace and goodwill to all, why can you only do it on 25th December? Why am I expected to go to my parents weraign a shirt etc. and be all poshed up "because it's Christmas?" when normally an old t-shirt and trousers will do.

What really really irritates me is that I have a part time job in a pizza shop, and I specifiacally go in and open it Christmas day becasue as the only one in the town, we make an absolute killing, but also because it is the best excuse I have for avoiding the annual drunken pictionary fight! Anyway, people come in going "You;re so pathetic working Christmas day!" and I ask them why, and they say have you nothign better to do. And something better to do to them seems to be getting drunk and eating pizza like EVERY WEEKEND OF THIER LIFE! and then they try to tell me it is something special. I don't think so.

So that's why I disliek Christmas - It's just become a pointless, meaningless farce and I refuse to have anythign to do with it, once the kids are sorted and happy.

This answer is even hard for me to believe. There was a time that I felt just as you do. I just wanted to hibernate and be left alone. I was one of the biggest Scrooges in the world. Then in an emergency I agreed to put on the "Red Suit" for a small party at the local VFW. When that first young child looked up at me with the fake beard and all, my heart softened. I have learned of the true meaning of Christmas. It really does lie in your heart. Now I can be found in Red all year round sharing that Joy. I have since let my beard and hair grow out so that I can portray the way Santa Claus is suppossed to be commercial or not I have it in my heart.

I agree about it being commercial, it seems that some people forget what christmas is all about. I have taught my children the meaning of christmas and they go to midnight mass on christmas eve just to remind them.
I love the shopping, and wrapping the gifts, and even hidding them from my teens, I would go for a quiet dinner with just ourselves but the kids don't thin it christmas without the family round sharing the dinner.
They all leave just after tea and then we spend quality time with the kids playing a family game.
Christmas is a time for family and sharing even if it is for one day only.

We don't waste the cards and the wrapping paper, the paper is recycled and the cards are cut up to use as gift tags for next year.

It is a shame that you do not like christmas, but I hope that this year you find something in it that gives you pleasure.

I have an idea for you, since you hate this holiday so much, why don't you volunteer during the season? Because, if you help someone out and give only of yourself, you are finally celebrating the real meaning of Christmas. Give it a try, there are so many things you can do to help people and, it will make you feel so good.

Um, yeah, you definitely don't know the true meaning of Chirstmas. It's not about spending time with people you don't like, wasting your money sending cards and gifts, etc. It's about celebrating Jesus' birthday. You don't have to do all those things. And people turn it into commercialism. And family member's getting drunk isn't common, at least that I know of. Be grateful for the stuff that you get (though it can be hard). If you still don't like it, then oh well, I tried.

You didn't say how old you are, but IF you are old enough, then do what YOU want to. If NOT old enough, play along until you are old enough to "hide out" during those Christmas get to gathers.

I noticed that you do have enough respect for Christmas to capatilize the C. You wouldn't put someone one, now would you?

Christmas is a great time of the year......It is NOT for YOU, NOT for ME, but to celebrate the birth of Christ. Perhaps you just need to hone your way of thinking about Christmas and why we have it. Reckon?

IF you really don't like Christmas now, I would hope that sometime in the future, perhaps when you have children, that you would discover what you are missing and go all out.

Good luck. Pops

Apperntly you really don't know the true meaning of Christmas. Its not even about any of those things, if you dislike the fact that its all commercial its about religion, I don't know how religous you are but its all in the bible! Its one of the most religous holidays which is why it is so highly thought of. You don't have to have a tree or gifts, but at least think about it that other people take this to heart, moments that will last forever! Just because you don't like or choose not to celebrate it doesn't mean you have to hate the holiday!

I can agree with most of your sentiments; I also hate how commercialized the holiday has become. I was fortunate however to be able to grasp the concept of sharing your presence (not presents) with the people you care most about. Maybe in time you will be able to get past this.
If not, you make your own choices and that's fine. I just hope you aren't a bitter person who, just be cause you don't like the holiday, try to ruin it for everyone else.

I love Christmas, not for the presents [ maybe i am telling a wee lie here :)] but for the fact that i can decorate my christmas tree, stick lovely lights up everywhere and it always cheer me up during the ice-cold Winter, if i could i would leave them up till christmas is done. I never get people who are miserable on Christmas day , thankfully, it is also the only time of year my husband will by me salty biscuits and smoked ham so i can stuff myself with it . Nooo, i love christmas.
