It will get better - I promise! I have been deaf in my left ear since I was 3 because of mumps. The mumps destroyed the hairs in my inner ear that pass sound to my brain and also affected my balance. And then, to top it off, at 14 I developed scoliosis - curvature of the spine - which also affects my balance.

I'm now in my 30s and I can manage to keep my balance in high heels after drinking several tequilas. I'm not trying to make light; I also suffered from dizzy spells and once passed out in a trolley in Morrisons which was hugely embarrassing. However, it does get better - it's a case of readjusting. Follow the doctors' advice - the body is an amazing thing and it will get used to the situtation. It will be weird for a while, but he will get better. Just tell him to avoid the tequila and high heels for a while as that takes practice!

mmm, yes NHS are shameful. Maybe he has a problem that is not being diagnosed because they assume its associated with the accident? Some inner ear problem sounds likely but poss Labarynthitis (not sure of spelling) I have met a few people with this, unfortunately no quick cure but symptoms sound very similar, feelings of dizzyness and disorientation, like living in a bubble. Or how about a visit to the opticians? unlikely the source of the problem but can't hurt to rule it out.

my husband had a brain tumor last year, although we were unsure of the cause they did keep asking him if he had hit his head at all, he works with clients who have mental health problems and one hit in the head with the door in the place where the tumor was.
my advice would be go to accident and emergency and complain of severe headaches at least that way he will get a scan quickly othersie he may have to wait for up to 15 months
and the damage could be worse
it may not be nothing serious it could be an inner ear infection but safer to have it checked

He should do the exercises, they may seem daft but they are designed to help! There is nothing he can do to improve other than the exercise and just give time a chance to heal him.

Well I can't answer your question, but perhaps he could get a job as a circus clown. There losing your balance and falling over is part of the job!

put bricks in the pocket on the side he loses his balance in, might take a few goes but it should do the trick. failing that, my lad has just took his stabalizers off his bike. attach those to his shoes and bob's your uncle!
