If they don't want to pay tax, then they shouldn't expect a phenomenol change! Some times it just takes a little more sacrifice from the citizens to make a difference. A little more people who turn out to vote, a little more tax, a little more times spent on the community. But why is it that so many people who do none of those things just complain, Complain, COMPLAIN! Dang!

I don't mean to be rude. I know that there's the other half of the population that does care and understand.

Well, there are some "wonderful" things we do with tax money. But there's also alot of waste and we spend money on things we probably shouldn't.
There are no programs, that I know of, in the federal government where a decent business case of cost/benefit is performed. We have programs around that have been there for decades and we have no idea if they're still worth doing. We spend tons of money on things that benefit a very small number of people- tons of pork dollars go to building things fed dollars should never fund and that we frankly can't afford.
We invest money in research and often times allow the patents (our public patents) to be used by private industry for little to nothing. then, we as consumers get to pay tons for either drugs, medical care or consumer products that we the public funded to develop. How does that make sense?
At this point, 25%+ of the fed budget goes to the military
About 20% or more (I think) goes to pay interest ONLY on the debt. We never retire any principle on our debt.
Local taxes etc. is a slightly different story-- still have waste and inefficiecy though.
I personally don't see what I get for my tax dollars (at the federal level) other than things like roads, national parks (which I have to pay to use), consumer protection laws (marginally benefit me that I can tell), college (I paid my tuition-but fed/state dollars go to Universities). I have never taken advantage of any federal programs, no subisdies, so welfare/TANF. So what am I getting for my money? Not much that I can see. Yet I pay quite a bit of dough each year to the fed and state. More than alot of people make in a year.
We get taxed for pretty much everything we come in contact with-- think about it. Income, consumption of all sorts, gasoline, phone, utilities, property. Next thing you know, they're going to tax the air we breath. Its get tiresome and eats away at everybody's earnings.

Try a higher tax bracket like I am in!!!!! I wish the democratic argument about the rich was true, unless they are talking about the super rich!!! I am earning a great wage but the tax rate for the bracket that I am in is insane!!! I am not complaining but your question is a great argument for the flat tax where everybody pays the same. There is no need to punish a group for "earning" their pay rate by going to college, getting a degree, and being successful!!!!

Tax rates are down, tax revenues are up.
I know it's hard to understand reality when you live (mentally anyway) in an ivory tower, but raising taxes on the people who start & expand business will not make them more inclined to tisk large sums of money for you to take & give to those who refuse to get a proper education and/or work.
If you want to do all these wonderful things, YOU pay for them.

You mean like....protect the nation and go to war in Iraq??? You want people to pay $$$ for that???? What a novel idea.
I thought the right way to pay for a war was to issue a huge tax cut, and sell bonds to foreign countries that hate us to pay for the war. I think I heard that somewhere...

I agree. I have always thought that those people who wanted the government to do so much more for them but complained about the amount of tax they paid were simply wonderfully entertaining hypocrites.

A real patriot always pays their taxes.
We have a 9 trillion dollar debt, we need better schools and roads. Health insurance for the uninsured!
The USA doesn't need anymore tax cuts for the rich. We need to invest that money in America.

If I really thought they'd do something wonderful with the money, I wouldn't mind (so much!) having my taxes raised. But we all know the gov't wastes money, regardless of who is in power.
I want corporate welfare cut, but it won't be. Imagine if we had all that money back in our coffers - we really COULD do something good.

Just think how much more money we'd have if they weren't spending a billion dollars a week on a futile war in Iraq.
