As a person who has lived for long periods, in Kenya, Portugal, Saudi Arabia, Hong Kong, Vietnam and also the UK at the beginning, and has also travelled to more than 60 other countries, I would like to state the following:

This is the safest, friendliest and most beautiful place I've ever been too!

I've lived here 14 years, and was thinking I should try South America for my next home since I speak Spanish and Portuguese, but I decided, in the end, that I have too many friends, and consider the country too lovely, to leave.
Despite some of my more controversial statements here on Answers, I think anyone who has read them will also have read between the lines and understands how much I love the life here.
Frustrating sometimes, but everyday I wake up I wonder what is going to happen, there's always something new, good or bad, to make each day different, exciting and never boring!
I'm also not a rich guy, I just get along, but I couldn't afford the things I do here in most other places, so it's cheap to live aswell, and every day, you can get up and put on a pair of shorts and drink ice cold San Miguel. It's always warm here.
Come and find out, like I said I've been here 14 years, but I only came here for a weekend- and stayed!

Yes the Philippines is a very good place for a holiday, and there is something for everyone. All the large islands are different from one another, in the way they go about things.
You must decide first, what you want from your holiday, if you want to go scuba diving don't go to Baguio.
There is lots of beautiful scenery, boat trips, beautiful beaches. As said the people are warm, friendly and hospitable, just like the climate.
I visited here several times, and made many friends. I now live on the Island of Cebu. I met a local girl on one of my many travels here, so maybe I am biased.
As I write this, the temperature is 86ºF, the sky is blue, and the palm fronds are swaying to the cool breeze from off the beautiful blue sea.

My advice read the Lonely Planet Guide, and select the places that you would really like to see, you won't have time for all of them.

I am a Filipino & am proud of our country. It is definitely a nice place to spend Christmas season. We have a long Christmas season here. We start as early as December 16 with 9 day early morning mass called Simbang Gabi. It usually ends with Three Kings or the first Sunday of January. You should try this. I suggest that you also see the Bamboo Organ in Las Pinas Church! Usually native foods are being sold outside the church like puto bungbong. You should see how they are cooked. It usually matches with a warm tea.

The streets are adorned with Christmas decorations. You should see Imus, Cavite which is the Christmas Capital of the Philippines. Each street has a motif. It is better to see the streets at night, christmas lights are lighted at that time.

I had spend my Christmas last year in San Francisco with friends & it made me cry & miss my family back home.

Family reunions are usually held during this season. The streets leading to the malls are usually traffic especially on the last minute shopping. You will really feel that Christmas is in the air. Christmas songs are being played in the radio stations as early as September.

Anywhere in the world, there will be pickpocketeers! It is not only in the Philippines.

Filipinos are very hospitable people, very friendly indeed.Speaking for myself, although we are facing hard times I still prefer to live here, nice weather (if you like humid temperature in the summer),but we also do have cool weather specially in december up to febuary or march.Spending the holidays here is fun,in fact we are known to have the longest Christmas season (Officially Dec 16 to Jan 6),but there are families that put up their christmas decors as early as september.Summers are also wonderful coz we have lots of very nice beaches (Boracay and Batangas, you can include also those of south of the Philippine Islands) As of danger, anywhere you go there is always danger, but generally Philippines is not dangerous (except in the southern region Mindanao where military is having operations with MILF) you can go anywhere you want to go (be careful with pickpocketers in crowded areas). Why don't you try visiting the Philippines and see for yourself.

i'm with you in this one cernad. i'm happy there are human beings in this website who make experience. i'm getting riled up via each and every of the stupid solutions, too. human beings of a undeniable form get uncovered to human beings on the comparable point as they're. i do no longer prefer to be judgmental yet we ought to continually attempt to no longer generalize. basically because of the fact somebody says that their bathing room is not any greater suitable than a hollow interior the floor that does no longer advise all of us's bathing room is. They in all probability lived in a depressed area or a squatter. we've a house in a rural area a techniques from the city yet we've an quite sturdy septic gadget, plumbing and each convenience you need to think of of. no longer each and every of the Philippines is "undesirable" and depressingly lacking. it relatively is basically the comparable as asserting that the U. S. is frightening in case you basically evaluate the slums. each and every u . s . a . has its proportion of the sturdy, the undesirable and the grotesque. As on your question, mae, the rustic is as sturdy as any to bypass to. while you're finding for sunlight and sand (and not wintry climate snow for a ski holiday), then it must be outstanding for you.

In general i would say yes it is safe so long as you use basic common sense and stay in areas where there are lots of other tourists, but be warned you are going to a country where they have to have guys with pump-action shotguns to guard the door of the local pizza hut!
