Yuo're exactly correct. But I'm sure the Reps are tired of being bashed for their own stupidity. But don't forget that the Dems also have flaws too. So, I really think they'll do exactly the same thing the Reps are doing, only that they'll put it in different words. That's all. Even if the Reps can't get things to work out in Iraq, what's so special about the Dems that'll do things differently to resolve things.
Ideally, if the two sides lower their ideals and expectations of the other side and put their heads together, I'll bet you they'll be able to resolve things if they want to. But I guess things don't work that way. It would take a miracle for anything like this to happen. So I really think we should all pray for miracles to take place.

Well since a new Secretary of Defense needs to be appointed ASAP, most likely the Secretary will come with some uber-strategy that the Democrats may have some feedback on. Then again, this is all speculation
However, prescription drugs, minimum wage, defense funding waste and recommendations from the 9/11 Committee are all in their agenda

Hopefully the democrats will do a better job with the situation in Iraq, if not I will be starting my own party for the next election.
