Why people talk up india baffles me they do not have any industry, have no infrastructure to speak of and the poverty is appalling- plus any country that lets cows walk on Airport runways wont be joining the first world anytime soon. The chinese have based their new on making poor copies of third rate products they have ripped of. Whereas the Russians have come roaring back from nowhere since the fall of communisim some people portrayed russia as a third world country. When it comes to making decisions that count, the Russian Bear is the only name in town- Putin cuts off gas supplies to Ukraine and Georgia and then quadruples the price and then they go back cap in hand apoligising. They have shell and other western oil majors over a barrel by renogiating pipeline and oil and gas developments. Russia put the first man in space and is a match for the west in a lot of other developments, china and india will still be playing catch up in fifty years whereas the russians have the brainpower.

Huvgj - so the mere fact that russia trumphs china and india combined for natural resources, and again the range and diversity of high value products the russian nation produces is way ahead of a nation of call centers in mumbai or a country that has cornered the market in tshirts in shanghai

Clive you are a bit of a dumpling. The space race as between 2 countries Russia and the US, if putting a man in space first is not innovative then i am a banana. China was under communisim for a shorter time in the twentieth century that the russians yet its the russians that are building the chineses 30 nuclear power stations in the next 10 years(lets hope they are not like cherynoble).

Ever hear of a B.R.I.C.K. investment?

Brazil
Russia
India
China
Korea (South)

This is where many people (investors) are banking that the greatest economic growth will be in the future.

OPINION:

It will be India's. The reasons i gove are; their current economic situation and recent history, their population, foreign investment, and skills based workforce. True, China is close behind. However, this is largely due to the sheer population - and thus prodicted economic figures. Forrign investment is limited geographically compared to India. In addittion, China's workforce is overwhelming unskilled COMPARED to India's. The real growth and money comes from the highly skilled sector, not the non-skilled/manufacturing areas (although this will obviously play a close second). Russia is out of the game, quite simply for lack of development of existing international business connections, and the still vastly under-invested development of skills-based employement throughout the majority of the country.

No chance! Russia has never been a country of innovators. Their culture has its roots in seventeenth century French imports and in spite of an apparently good education system, the people lack the initiative, diligence, motivation and stoicism for success. The Chinese have nearly ten thousand years of culture behind them and were temporarily restrained in the twentieth by the communist years. The Chinese characteristics lend themselves to industrial and commercial success.

No way.
China is rising faster than any other nation at the moment. It has the ability to deliver quality goods at a much lower price than any other country. It already has a big foothold in Africa and is enjoying a spectacular renaissance. Nobody really knows the extent of their resources. I have been to Russia recently, and it is very slow at recovering from the communist era. Corruption and criminality are rife and it has serious problems with satellites like Chechnya.
