Not much. It's close enough to give Allen the right to a recount according to VA state law, but not really close enough for one to have much of a chance of changing the outcome.

Last year there was a recount in the state attorney general election. The total # of votes was about the same as this election and the recount only shifted the count by about 35 votes, adding a bit to the winner's lead. Webb is ahead by about 7300 votes.

I live in Virginia and I voted for Webb. Even if I was republican, George Allen has always reminded me of Bullwinkle of Rocky and Bullwinkle cartoon fame. In other words, he ain't the sharpest tool in the shed. This is an incredibly conservative state. The joke about Richmond, where I live (former capital of the confederacy) - is Q: "How many Richmonder's does it take to screw in a lightbulb?" A: 3. "One to actually do it and the other two to stand around and reminisce about how much better the old lightbulb was." I hope Webb wins....but unfortunately I wouldn't be surprised if somehow a recount puts Bullwinkle out ahead. Did you hear about the dirty politics going on here yesterday? People were calling Webb supporters (in substantial numbers) and leaving messages or telling them verbally (FALSELY) that their voting precinct had been changed and that they needed to report to another precinct. All the calls had the caller i.d. blocked. Of course the Republicans deny knowing anything about it....but evidently it happened enough that the Elections Secretary for the state reported all of the incidents to the FBI. There are many, many staunch Bush supporters in VA - actually I don't think its that they like Bush so much as they would never admit that someone from their party is a joke. You gotta give the Republicans credit for loyalty, but I don't put one dirty trick past them...because many of the Republicans I know in Virginia are very much in love with power - and power at any cost. Keep your fingers crossed - hopefully Webb will be declared victorious before Christmas.

It depends on the statistics. There is a certain number of ballots that don't get counted or get counted wrong. This number usually changes from county to county. So it depends on what the different counties have for errors.

for example. If a county that voted 60% democratic had 99% of its ballots counted correctly, then recounting this county will only pick up a few more votes for Webb. But then if there is a county that is 60% republican and only 95% of those votes were counted, then Allen would pick up a good number of votes. We'll have to see.

Webb's e book replaced into fiction. i imagine few everybody is stupid sufficient to imagine that issues happening in a fictional novel mean that the author approves of those acts. Allen's remark, besides the undeniable fact that, replaced into spoken in a context that did aspect out that, no matter if (as he claims) he did not recognize the racist nature of the interest, he replaced into intending to insult and embarrass his opponent.

Snow Ball's chance in my opinion. According to CNN a recount of that many votes is unlikely and in American history has not happened before. In effect it is likely a change of outcome just wont happen.

of course he has a chance...but not much of one...this isn't florida...the last time a statewide recount had to be done, the winner ended up with a difference of less than 100 votes than before the recount..to his favor...so, i't possible, but not very likely...this race was allen's to lose, and much like when he was a qb for uva, he managed to lose it...

Not a chance. This one is in the Bag.The only gracious thing for Allen to do is for him to concede, for the sake of Virginia and for his party.

The only thing I can think of is if the current totals include absentee ballots. Va. has a very large military population which traditionally votes Republican and votes absentee.

Somewhat.

The margin is low enough (less than 0.5%) for him to order a recall statewide, without any consequences to him. The Republicans could always sabotage the recount (as they have done before)
