When Eddie Murphy and Arsenio Hall first get to Queens and they look for an apartment, the landlord shows them this really messed up room, and he says, "damn shame what they did to that dog." and then they show a tape outline of the dog...but we're still trying to figure out what happened to it...

Well, I think what the whole scene was to show that the guys were renting a place in a REALLY bad neighborhood. So bad that the place they were renting had been the scene of a terrible crime. The criminals were so ruthless, they even killed the dog. The joke was that the landlord was showing sympathy for the dog (meaning, geez they even killed the dog) and not for the human/humans that had been murdered there...
