For example- you could say I don’t want to donate my liver to alcoholics or you could say I don’t want to donate my lungs to smokers or
White, Black, Chinese, Muslims……
If you do, where would you draw the line?

Part of me thinks it is acceptable with the alcoholics/smokers thing because if I donated my organs I'd want them to go to someone who would deserve & appreciate them not just use them to be able to cause a bit more damage to themselves.

I'd draw the line at the white, black, chinese, muslim bit because at the end of the day as long as that person isn't going to abuse that organ again we're all just people wanting to get better,it doesn't matter what race or religion we are.

I would like to donate my organs to anyone who needs them. Even if my lungs go to a 100 cigarettes a day smoker I would be happy as I don't think I can judge other people on things like this - after all how do I know that I would not have made the same choices they did if I had lived their lives?
Anyway that is what I think about MY organs. I am not sure about other people - I hope many will share my view but if someone does not want a particular person to get their organs then that should be their choice, I guess.

The word donate means to give a gift. Your organs are the gift of life for someone in need. Would you choose the person's needs as being lesser or greater due to their ethnicity or previous habits?

Lists of people waiting for organ transplants are prioritized by the criticality of their need and offer no room for judgment in any other way.

To be absolutely honest, I really wouldn't mind who I was donating my organs to when I die, it is the fact that when I die I will maybe help to save someone's/anyone's life. I would hope though that if they were donated to someone who had brought about their own need for a transplant then it would be the encouragement enough for them to take care of their body and new organs.

I think it's very acceptable, if they did this then more people would donate. I would be fuckingangry if my heart ended up in some Muslim rapist just so he could go around telling people that if you don't wear a veil it is OK for a Muslim to rape you!!! My organs might save a life when I die but because of the chance that someone I don't like could end up with them I won't donate.

As others have reported: i'm no longer likely to be using them. If somebody else can get use from them for some/countless years, then they'd have my organs whilst i'm via with them.

The only way you can morally do so would be to request organs only be donated to a family member or friend in need

No. they used to be able to do that, but Its just bigotry and racism. However, I don't think people like Larry Hagman should have gotten his liver over that poor girl who died in his place just because he is a celebrity. THAT is wrong! Celebrities should be last on any list of recipients if they caused their illness.

I would like to think that my organs would go to someone who is deserving, but I don't think it is right for anyone to say they don't want to donate to a certain demographic - surely that is just another form of racism.

Absolutely not. Organs are donated to those who need them, not to those we would prefer.

To allow this level of choice would be to allow discrimination to the point of choosing who lives and who dies.
