I have my amp mic'd up and I can play single string lines with distortion and not have any problems but once i start playing chords, after a couple seconds the sound drops drastically and I hear a lot of static. Also, it starts to kinda sound like I'm using a chorus effect (which I'm not). Any suggestions?

I'm not certain, but you might be catching the natural reverb of the room you are recording in. Try two things... first, put the mike farther away from the amp speaker. It's easy to overpower the diaphragm of the mike if you have it too close to the speaker. Second, try putting the amp and mike in a room that doesn't have a lot of hard surfaces like bare walls, tile or concrete floors, ect. To use the most accurate term, find a room that is accoustically "dead"

Check all your patch cords, sounds like you may have a bunk one. You can also try backing the mic off a bit, if you can't get the sound you want try one mic in front of the amp and one in back to capture the full tone, are you using a condenser mic or a stage mic? If your using a stage mike it may just be old...alot of effects sound better in post production.

good luck, i know how frustrating puting thing down can be!

Turn down the volume..you are overdriving the microphone. If your amp has a "line out", use it instead of using a mic.
