I don't plan on going to college, and no, you can't change my mind, but I was wondering what people think of people not going to college. I want to be a writer as a carrer, but I am starting my own buisnesss to make money untill I become a famous writer (hopefully!), so I have all the financial making money parts covered, and I don't think that going to college would help my writing, since I already have a writing style and have started writing boks already, but what do you all think, and whats your opinion on peole not going to college? (I'm 14 and home schooled)

I'm in university now, and I feel as if I'm being programmed, just like I did when I was in high school. University doesn't make everyone happy, and it doesn't make everyone successful, so if you can be happy and successful without it, then more power to you.

College is not for everyone. And just because you go to college does not mean you'll get a higher paying job - what sort of demand is there for liberal arts or political science (my undergrad degree college). If you're starting your own business, be sure you're qualified. You can take courses here and there, like at a trade school, to help out, if needed. As far as writing, get involved with a critique group and enter some contests to win awards or find a literary agent/publisher if you're to that point. BTW, the average successful writer needs to publish 2-4 books a year, depending on length and success, so get busy.

You should do what you're passionate about. If you don't want to go to college, there is no law forcing you to. Keep in mind that your only 14 and as you get older your way of thinking might change and you might realize that college can really help your writing career. As far as what people think, who cares! As long as you are happy with yourself and you are able to make a living doing what you do, don't even stress yourself out worrying about it. It's your life and it's too short to waste time regretting decisions. By the way, for a professional writer you have a lot of spelling mistakes.

In your particular case I would suggest college, or at least a way for you to constructively build on your writing skills. Even though you have established a style for yourself, it might be use full for you to be in a situation where you can build upon the foundation you have set for yourself. If you plan to make it big you need to make sure that you have fully developed all the skills publishers and readers are looking for, and for most people college is the best way to achieve that goal. Its also very difficult, maybe impossible, to be able to start your own business without some sort of degree of higher learning than a high school diploma. Both the career choices your looking at are very intellectually demanding and are usually only successfully for those who have majored or at the very least taken courses in those respected areas for at least their undergraduate program (the first four years of college)

Being a writer is about more than a writing style. It is about grammar, presentation, vocabulary, and putting things in a logical easy to read order. All of these may impact a style, however they are learned separately then incorporated into the style. That learning is where college would be helpful.
As to how I look at those (including myself) who either didn't go or dropped out (me) of college... FOOLISH, just plain foolish.

oh my god. First of all I can tell you right now that your not going to be a famous writer without being taught how to write. Yes some people have natural talent, but writing classes really teach you about what makes for a good paragraph. Get out of homeschool girl, stop living in your dream world where you are starting your own buisness without start capital and training to run your buisness. All your gonna do is have your dreams crushed in the real world. Don't hang yourself when that happens.

If you don't go to college, things will be 1o times harder in a real world. 75% of jobs require a college education, and the jobs that don't require it are either bad paying jobs or the people who get those jobs are very talented or lucky or both. You can't depend on being a famous writer because it is very hard and very few people make a decent living off of writing. You have to be able to write extremely good books and be able to grab people's attention. I used to depend on being a famous writer, but it seems harder than I thought. You have to get a decent publisher to publish your book, and you can't be writing boring books. Hope this helps.
