Taxi Driver by Bernard Hermann.

An amazing soundtrack that works perfectly with the movie. I can't imagine this film working half as well without this music. Hermann also did the scores for Psycho, Vertigo and Marnie - all great.

All David Lynch soundtracks by Angelo Badalamenti
in particular Lost Highway (including the pop tracks by people like Smashing pumpkins, nine inch nails and David Bowie), Blue Velvet, and of course Twin Peaks - Perfect marriage of music and image.

Once Upon a Time in the West by Ennio Morricone - Just amazing.

And the best not original soundtrack (Ie pre-recorded songs) Trainspotting. Features great tracks including Iggy Pop, Blur, Brian Eno, Lou Reed, and of course Underworld " Lager, lager, lager...".

The "Dawn of the Dead" remake/reimaging is my favorite. The music selection was diverse (e.g. Johnny Cash, Richard Cheese, Disturbed), yet very appropriate and effective for the movie. Unfortunately, as near as I can tell, a CD was never released for the soundtrack.

I also like the soundtracks to "Gettysburg" and "Gods and Generals", the Ted Turner Civil War films.
