I have a 1982 Yamaha SS440 Snowmobile. I'm having some problems with it. When the key is turned...the engine cranks but doesn't start. It could be the plugs, or something else. Also, I want to clean out the carb. I have some carb cleaning fluid for cars. Can I use it on a snowmobile? Also, how do I use it, and if thew engine starts...will it combust the carb fluid? Any other tips about how to clean the inside of the engine is welcome.

Thanks, Mike.

OMG i got the same problem with my 300 twin special i aint sure wat year mine is, but it does the exact same thing. it can sit in the garage all summer in the heat but when i go to start it it pulls really hard but it cranks, but dont fire and the spark plugs spark. Last fall my uncle that used to be a atv mechanic took the carb apart and gave it a good cleaning and it turned right over. it runs good when i can get it started, but yeah, u can use carb cleaner on a sled if that answers your question

Start with new plugs.I would next drain the gas and put in fresh gas. Yes you can use carb cleaner(spray carefully into carbs once running) You should remove the carbs and clean for best results. What happens is over summer months the gas gets stale and condensation gets into the fuel tank. This is what happens to a lot of snowmobiles. Good luck and Think Snow.I have a Yamaha Ovation 340 and a Ski Doo 583...and waiting to ride.

Start by replacing the plugs. Then put the plug into the cap ground the end of the plug toa head bolt or somthing metal that would act as a good ground. pull the engine over and check for spark. This is usually easier to do with two people. This will tell you whether its an electrical problem or fuel. good luck

sounds such as you could desire to alter the gas (sounds like it somewhat is working too wealthy, in spite of the undeniable fact that it somewhat is too lean, i'm no tuner lol). My brother runs a snowmobile engine in his flow-kart, and had an analogous difficulty, which he remedy via adjusting the gas mixture. desire this enables. P.s. it may additionally be unfavorable bypass interior the exhaust, blended with the gas issues, yet until eventually you have equipped a sparkling/residing house equipped exhaust, I fairly doubt it!
