Proposition 86 was defeated, as was Prop. 87

Interesting you should ask specifically about Prop. 86. I looked in my local paper the day after Election Day, and it reported that 100% of the votes were in and PROP 86 HAD WON!

Two days later, 2 separate people told me it had lost. I finally had to search and read several reports online saying it had LOST before I would believe it.

My county has one of the stricktest anti-smoking laws in CA and my guess is that they reported it the way my county voted it, not the way CA voted it. Except that ... they reported all the rest of the propositions correctly, just that one was opposite the truth. My guess is that it was a money grab, a very illegal one.
PROPOSITION 86 WAS DEFEATED BY CALIFORNIA VOTERS. You can count on that. Check the google search yourself, below.

83 and 84 won, all the other high number props lost. All the 1A thru 1E bond props won.
