I had unprotected sex at exactly the time of suspected ovulation...my period is now 4 days late. I took a home test when i was 2 days late and it came up negative, but..i still havent gotten my period and i've started to feel nauseous several times a day. What should my next step be? wait it out? or test again in a few days?

test in a few days

Wait a few more days and test again. It could be the hormone levels aren't high enough yet to register. Some women have to have pregnancies confirmed by blood test. Best of luck!

Like mable .syrup said and few others, if you tested too early, it is a possible explanation for your negetive results. But, you may also just not be pregnant. Sometimes it's very easy to "imagine" (I hate to use the word, when it hardly seems imaginary I'm sure) the symptoms that come with pregnancy.

HCG levels during pregnancy:

* 3 weeks LMP: 5 - 50 mIU/ml
* 4 weeks LMP: 5 - 426 mIU/ml
* 5 weeks LMP: 18 - 7,340 mIU/ml
* 6 weeks LMP: 1,080 - 56,500 mIU/ml
* 7 - 8 weeks LMP: 7, 650 - 229,000 mIU/ml
* 9 - 12 weeks LMP: 25,700 - 288,000 mIU/ml
* 13 - 16 weeks LMP: 13,300 - 254,000 mIU/ml
* 17 - 24 weeks LMP: 4,060 - 165,400 mIU/ml
* 25 - 40 weeks LMP: 3,640 - 117,000 mIU/ml
* Non-pregnant females: <5.0 mIU/ml
* Postmenopausal: <9.5 mIU/ml

Most tests will tell you the amount of HCG their test will react too. But again, if you've underestimated your timing, the test could still be wrong.

If you think you've tested early, or you're not sure, treat yourself as though you're pregnant taking your vitamins (ESPECIALLY folic acid!!) and taking care of yourself and possibly 'baby' until you have a more concrete answer, whether that be a positive pregnancy test or your period.

Good luck.

test again in a week if you still havent gotten your period. your hormone levels might not be high enough yet for the test to detect it- also try a good test like clear blue easy... somewhere online you can find a site that shows how high the hormone level has to be for the test to detect it.. i think clear blue easy is one that can pick up small amounts.. so it tends to let you know sooner than most other tests. good luck.

Have a blood test done. They are more accurate than urine.
