Length is not really an issue. Your story should be just as long as you need to tell it. Some great novels are 75 pages long, others take up 1 000, or more.

According to the National Novel Writing Month website, 50,000 words is about 175 pages of a novel. Many books are around 250 or so...but there are always edits and additions. Good luck!

Probably. While saying 'the story needs to be as long as it needs to be' is good general advice, there is a set of generally accepted standards in the publishing world and they vary widely depending on the genre of the novel. Mysteries and romances tend to be shorter 75K-100K, Fantasies and SF are typically 100K-120K (but can go way longer), YA books run around 50K to 80K. These are all rough estimates. Depends on the story.

Agatha Christie wrote 55 000 word murder mysterys. If you think that your story will need editing and cutting then 50 000 is too little.

if you feel that the story remains unresolved because of its length then i would consider revising it or make sure that there is another piece that fills in the emty spaces in your composition. if the the publisher seems interested in the story, i would emagine that the worst they would do is to ask you to add on some chapters
