Its whatever you like. Just because you listen to a certain type of music doesn't make you some "label". DOn't listen to those people, be yourself thats all you can be!

People call everything emo or goth these days. 10 or 15 years ago, 'emo' was a very particular type of music, thought of as more of a certain type of indie rock and was not mainstream word like it is today. Being goth was more about listening to the Cure, Bauhaus or Sisters of Mercy, etc.. Most (not all) of what you listed was the mainstream rock music of the early-mid 90s that got labeled 'alternative' back then. Emo and goth kids hated that music. Preppy college kids and jocks got into that stuff through MTV. Why on earth kids are calling it emo or goth now is beyond me.

Sweetie, I think you're trying to be different and stand out. You're not the first person to listen to this kind of music - I was listening to Nirvana, Metallica, Foo Fighters, Pearl Jam and Greenday (the Dookie album) ten years ago. Well, I was listening to Nirvana when Kurt was still alive, so about fourteen years for them.
You're not a goth. I was called grunge for wearing that sort of stuff ten years ago. I don't know what they'd call it now.
It's ok to want to be different and stand out. People don't hate you, but you might want them to because you're thirteen and trying to develop yourself as an individual.
Being a rebel is nothing new sweetie.

Just like the 80s and sixties: Emo is like hippies from the 60s and big hair from the 80s. It is just another one of those crazy styles that our kids will look at our yearbooks and be embarassed. I'm not emo. I'm not friends with anyone emo. They're boring and depressing. You have the emo/goth style and you listen to the emo/goth music. That's why they call you emo. In the 60s, if you listened to psychedelic music with peace signs and had the style, you would be called a hippie. Usually emos and goths are friends with other emos and goths.

You know good music when you hear it huh??? Most of those bands are my favorite!!! And I have a 13 year old daughter myself!!! Kids your age are all about stereotyping...that's just the way it is!! Don't compromise what you like because people comment on you!! Just because you're not completely top 40 and mainstream doesn't mean you're not cool!!! Dress how you like and listen to what you like that's what makes you ...YOU!!!
Back in the day we didn't have "emo" or "goth"....it was more like rockers or punk rockers... I was a complete rocker and I remember some of the chicks would comment on my preference but I never let it get to me!!!
People don't hate you if they don't know you...they are just narrow minded and that's their problem...not yours!! You know who you are and that's all that matters!!!
Kids at my daughters school get classified as emo or goth simply because their hair is died black...don't sweat the small stuff

Your musical taste sounds perfectly fine to me. In fact, when I was your age I listened to similar music (which I still listen to today). Although I am much older than you, I was not a teenager in the early or mid 90's. Basically, while all my friends were listening to the backstreet boys I listened to Nirvana and Pearl Jam. Although your friends may not think it is normal right now, I am sure as you move into high school that you will find friends that are similar to you. Do not change because of ignorant people. You sound great to me.

My son is 13 and a hardcore skater. He gets along well with everyone and is well liked. He listens to a lot of the same bands that you do. People don't hate you. They are just 13 and looking for any excuse to pick on you. Kids at that age seem to be vicious. It's totally normal for you to be listening to these bands. Could it be that they are jealous? Are you possibly shy and quiet so they assume you must be "goth"? Whatever, keep listening to the music you enjoy. No one can stop you from doing that. Hang tough!

There is totally nothing wrong with liking the music you listed. All the bands you listed are totally wicked. You have excellent taste, as opposed to everyone else your age who probably listen to Brittany Spears, Chritina Agulara and all that other mindless trash.
You dont sound goth-- maybe a bit emo but come on-- you just have good taste.
Dont let other people dictate who you are going to be. Music is just music and your picks are cool.
So much better than brainless drones like K-Fed, JEssica Simpson, Bowwow and all that other total garbage.
Stay true to you

You sound like a totally original person.
Who has a great taste in music. :]
And the people who label you are just insecure and shallow.
I think it's cool that you listen to what you want to listen to.
And dress how you want to dress.
And you should not give a second thought to what people say.
In time, it will all work out for you and you'll definitely meet people who share your same interests.
So keep it up.
Good luck!

Thatt's not normal... you should be listening to Hillary Duff or something like that... HAHA!! who am i kidding?! Nah...it's not weird... When 13, I used to like those bands too... Nirvana was and still my idol... I'm 17 right now, and my love for rock grew when I was so much younger... probably when I was 7 or 8... Now, I still do like rock.. but my taste has changed... I prefer bands like Rhapsody, Dragonforce, Dark Moor, Turisas, Manowar, etc... mainly power metal...

So to sum up, you're normal..

p/s:they call you goth coz they're stupid...(^^,)... goth don't dress that way... you're cool... i like people wearing band shirts... at least I know I'm not alone :P ...and people hate you because, again, THEY'RE STUPID... :D
