I work as an administrative assistant for a small company (5 people office) in the financial field. I have been in my current position for only 1 year, but I am going to quit and go back to college in January (about 2 mos). Should I alert the bosses to my leaving now, one month, or two weeks from the date I leave?

If you've had a good relationship with your bosses, I'd say give them as much notice as you can. They will appreciate it and so will the others in the office who will end up doing your job if someone new isn't in place by the time you leave. You're leaving anyway, so why not give them a break?

Two weeks notice is plenty. One week to find someone, and another to train. Any more time is giving them an invitation to ax you before you want to leave. It shouldn't be too difficult for them to find an administrative assistant.

Have you considered keeping your job and going to school part time? It would be nice to have the income.

Just a thought. Most adults don't quit working completely to return to school.

2 weeks is great for a notice. I wouldnt give them 2 months notice, because there is a possibility they will get rid of you sooner than you may want to leave. They will need to replace you with someone else, and a couple of weeks may give them the opportunity to do so.

when your boss wants to get rid of you how much notice will he give you?? now to answer your question do not give any more than two weeks and i would consider just one week. you probably are going to be the sljo for the rest of your time there after you give your notice. Two weeks notice. You don't want to keep your job and still attend school. Good luck !

you should give two weeks which is standard, but its such a small office you might give an extra week so they can find a replacement.

Give as much notice as possible, that way your employer can find and train someone.

2 weeks is standard. More is always better. Check your contract, if you have one, sometimes it's in there.
