Prior to use a torque wrench to set to the amount of torque or tightness recommended for the bolt. When in use it continues to tighten until the amount of torque is reached and then just clicks.

Torque wrench's are specialized devices that properly stretches bolts, yes bolts actually can stretch, but there are variables such as the class of bolt (or screw) what material it is composed of, and if a lubricate is used.
These wrench's come in different size drives (i.e. 1/4 " 3/8 " 1/2 " etc.)
If you use a extension on a torque wrench you have to adjust the torque setting.
When setting the torque lets say 35 lbs. turn the setting 5 lbs. higher, then lower to 35 lbs.
Always turn down to O when finished.
Never drop or use to remove bolts, you will effect the accuracy and may need to be re calibrated.

their are parts on vehicles that require a certain amount of torque. a torque wrench is a ratchet that has a needle that points down the back of the wrench to a rounded metal plate with numbers from 0 to 80 depending on the size of the wrench, those numbers are how many pounds of torque that you put on a bolt after it is tight.

george is almost right it is a special wrench that might or might not have a ratchet. it is use to measure the force that a bolt or nut is tightened to. some are used with springs and click others use a long needle to indicate on a scale the amount of torque(ft pds) you have tightened to. generally they are used where a certain amount of tightening is required to maintain specs and safety and performance

A torque wrench is one that has a special ratchet the tighter the bolt the more lbs of pressure it will withstand. the ratchet will have a measuring device that tells you how much pressure (torque ) you have.
